Dad Arrested After Tackling Son’s Wrestling Opponent, Caught on Video

The father of a high school wrestler was arrested in North Carolina after officials say he interrupted his son’s match and slammed his son’s opponent onto the mat. Barry Lee Jones was charged with simple assault and disorderly conduct after the alleged attack, according to NBC News.

The incident went down on Saturday, in a competition at A.L. Brown High School in Kannapolis, North Carolina, located about 20 miles from Charlotte.

Leading up to the alleged assault, Jones’ son was thrown to the mat by what officials called an illegal move. The competitors were separated and in the process of being positioned to resume the match, when Jones allegedly interrupted the action and tackled his son’s opponent.

A group of adults rushed the mats in response, with one man pinning Jones to the floor.

Police said the 17-year-old alleged victim was not injured and Jones was released on $1,000 bail.
